Demand for Cold Chain Logistics Rising as Middle Class Grows in South Africa

A growing middle class coupled with an influx of tourism has increased the need for cold chain logistics in South Africa. This changing consumer is seeking more choices of fresh fruits throughout the year, as well as more prepared meals and convenience foods. As a result, the import of poultry, meat and fruit is on the rise. According to John Cunningham, Managing Director of Barpo Storage SA, the region’s growth has been steady for approximately 15 years but “has slowed somewhat due to electricity constraints.” There is a great need for energy management improvements.

The GCCA South Africa Cold Chain Summit will bring together over 100 cold chain professionals from all over the world to discuss the South African cold chain industry, its global impact, and how to operate successfully within the marketplace. This two day event features general/plenary sessions, education sessions, networking events and a table top exhibition.
